विप्रोषितश्च भरतो यावदेव पुरादितः ।
तावदेवाभिषेकस्ते प्राप्तकालो मतो मम ॥२-४-२५॥
vipraścitaśca bharato yāvadeva purāditaḥ |
tāvadevābhiṣekaste prāptakālo mato mama ॥2-4-25॥
Translation
As long as Bharata is indeed far away from the city, only that much time do I deem appropriate for your consecration.

जब तक भरत नगर (अयोध्या) से दूर बाहर गए हुए हैं, तभी तक मुझे तुम्हारा अभिषेक करना उचित समय (प्राप्तकाल) लगता है।
English Commentary
This verse is part of the speech of King Dasaratha to Lord Shri Rama during the preparations for the coronation. After giving instructions on religious rites and security in the preceding verses, Dasaratha here states a critical reason for performing the consecration swiftly: Bharata's absence. He clearly states that he deems it the 'appropriate time' (prāptakāla) for Rama's coronation only as long as Bharata and Shatrughna are far away from Ayodhya, at their maternal uncle's home (Girivraja). This statement reveals Dasaratha's political astuteness, though many scholars also detect a subtle anxiety or sense of urgency. Dasaratha likely wished to ensure that Shri Rama's coronation occurred without any internal opposition or complications, knowing that Bharata's mother, Kaikeyi, might seek the royal claim for her son. Thus, this verse reveals the underlying political motivation for the urgency of the coronation, indicating that the throne of Ayodhya was a highly sensitive matter and Dasaratha wished to secure the succession as soon as possible.
