Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
लक्ष्मणेमां माया सार्धं प्रशाधि त्वं वसुन्धराम् ।
द्वितीयं मेऽन्तरात्मानं त्वामियं श्रीरुपस्थिता ॥२-४-४३॥
lakṣmaṇemāṁ māyā sārdhaṁ praśādhi tvaṁ vasundharām |
dvitīyaṁ me'ntarātmānaṁ tvāmiyaṁ śrīrupasthitā ॥2-4-43॥
Translation
O Lakshmana! Govern this earth along with me. You are my second inner self (second soul/life), and this regal prosperity (Śrī) has come to you.

हे लक्ष्मण! तुम मेरे साथ इस पृथ्वी का शासन करो। तुम मेरे दूसरे अन्तर्यात्मा (दूसरे प्राण) हो, और यह राजलक्ष्मी (श्री) तुम्हारे पास आई है।
English Commentary
This verse is from the Ayodhyakanda, Sarga 4, of the Valmiki Ramayana. In this Shloka, Śrī Rāma is addressing his beloved younger brother, Lakshmana, right at the time when preparations for Śrī Rāma's coronation were underway. This statement by Śrī Rāma reflects his profound love, trust, and respect for Lakshmana. He does not see Lakshmana merely as a helper or a sibling, but calls him his 'second inner self' ($dvitīyaṁ ext{ }me'ntarātmānam$), which establishes that they are two forms of the same life force. On the occasion of the coronation, Śrī Rāma includes Lakshmana in his joy by stating that this regal prosperity (Śrī) has also come to Lakshmana. This utterance clarifies Śrī Rāma's spirit of selflessness and his desire to share every happiness and prosperity with his loved ones. This Shloka sets the ideal of Bhrātṛ-prema (fraternal love), where the importance of the younger brother is no less than the elder brother's own life.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण के अयोध्याकाण्ड के चौथे सर्ग से लिया गया है। इस श्लोक में, श्री राम अपने प्रिय छोटे भाई लक्ष्मण से बात कर रहे हैं, ठीक उस समय जब श्री राम के राज्याभिषेक की तैयारियाँ चल रही थीं। श्री राम का यह कथन लक्ष्मण के प्रति उनके गहन प्रेम, विश्वास और सम्मान को दर्शाता है। वे केवल लक्ष्मण को एक सहायक या भाई के रूप में नहीं देखते, बल्कि उन्हें अपना ‘दूसरा अन्तर्यात्मा’ (द्वितीयं मेऽन्तरात्मानम्) कहते हैं, जो यह सिद्ध करता है कि वे दोनों एक ही प्राण के दो रूप हैं। राज्याभिषेक के अवसर पर, श्री राम लक्ष्मण को यह कहकर अपनी खुशी में शामिल करते हैं कि यह राजलक्ष्मी (श्री) भी लक्ष्मण के पास ही आई है। यह वचन श्री राम की त्याग भावना और अपने प्रियजनों के साथ हर सुख-समृद्धि को बाँटने की उनकी इच्छा को भी स्पष्ट करता है। यह श्लोक भ्रातृ-प्रेम (भाईचारे) के आदर्श को स्थापित करता है, जहाँ बड़े भाई के लिए छोटे भाई का महत्व उसके स्वयं के जीवन से कम नहीं है।
