द्वाःस्थैरावेदितं तस्य रामायागमनं पुनः ।
श्रुत्वैव चापि रामस्तं प्राप्तं शङ्कान्वितोऽभवत् ॥२-४-५॥
dvāḥsthairāveditaṃ tasya rāmāyāgamanaṃ punaḥ |
śrutvaiva cāpi rāmastaṃ prāptaṃ śaṅkānvito'bhavat ॥2-4-5॥
Translation
The doorkeepers informed Rama of his (Sumantra's) arrival once again. And as soon as Rama heard of his return, he became filled with doubt (as to the reason for this second summons).

द्वारपालों के द्वारा राम को सारथी (सुमन्त्र) के फिर से आने की सूचना दी गई। उसे (सुमन्त्र को) आया हुआ सुनकर ही श्रीराम को कुछ शंका हुई।
English Commentary
This verse is from the Ayodhya Kanda, Sarga 4, of the Valmiki Ramayana and describes Shri Rama's reaction to the second arrival of King Dasharatha's charioteer, Sumantra. When the doorkeepers came and informed Shri Rama that Sumantra had returned to summon him, Rama immediately became filled with doubt ('śaṅkānvito'bhavat'). Rama's doubt arose because he had just concluded an essential discussion with King Dasharatha and returned to his residence. The swift, second arrival of an emissary, especially after the auspicious ceremony of the Crown Prince's anointment had been scheduled, suggests an unexpected or highly urgent matter. This doubt in Rama's mind highlights his sensitivity and foresight. Although the general atmosphere is festive, he immediately pondered the potentially serious reason behind this unusual event. This incident foreshadows the dramatic turning point in the narrative, where King Dasharatha is about to discuss a crucial and unforeseen subject with Rama in private.

यह श्लोक महर्षि वाल्मीकि द्वारा रचित अयोध्याकाण्ड के चौथे सर्ग का है और इसमें महाराजा दशरथ के सारथी सुमन्त्र के दूसरी बार आगमन पर श्रीराम की प्रतिक्रिया का वर्णन है। जब द्वारपालों ने आकर श्री राम को सूचित किया कि सुमन्त्र उन्हें पुनः बुलाने आए हैं, तो यह सुनकर राम के मन में तत्काल शंका उत्पन्न हो गई। राम को शंका इसलिए हुई क्योंकि वह महाराज दशरथ से आवश्यक विचार-विमर्श करके अभी-अभी उनके पास से लौटे थे। युवराज-पद के अभिषेक जैसा शुभकार्य निर्धारित हो जाने के बाद, किसी दूत का इतनी शीघ्रता से दूसरी बार आना किसी अनपेक्षित या अत्यावश्यक घटना का संकेत देता है। राम के मन में यह शङ्का उनके चरित्र की संवेदनशीलता और दूरदर्शिता को दर्शाती है। यद्यपि वातावरण में उत्सव का माहौल है, फिर भी वे इस असामान्य घटना के संभावित गंभीर कारण पर विचार करने लगे। यह घटना आगे की कथा के नाटकीय मोड़ की ओर इशारा करती है, जहाँ राजा दशरथ राम के समक्ष एक महत्वपूर्ण और अप्रत्याशित विषय पर बात करने वाले हैं।
