तं श्रुत्वा समनुप्राप्तं रामं दशरथो नृपः ।
प्रवेश्यामास गृहं विवक्षुः प्रियमुत्तमम् ॥२-४-९॥
taṃ śrutvā samanaprāptaṃ rāmaṃ daśaratho nṛpaḥ |
praveśyāmāsa gṛhaṃ vivakṣuḥ priyamuttamam ॥2-4-9॥
Translation
Hearing that Rama had arrived nearby, King Dasharatha then ushered him (Rama) into his inner apartment, as he wished to tell him a supreme, dear message.

उस राम को पास आया हुआ सुनकर, राजा दशरथ ने उन्हें (राम को) भीतर अपने निवास में प्रवेश करा दिया, क्योंकि वे उन्हें (राम को) कोई उत्तम प्रिय बात कहना चाहते थे।
English Commentary
This verse is from the Ayodhya Kanda, Sarga 4, of the Valmiki Ramayana. It describes the urgency and emotional state of King Dasharatha upon Shri Rama's swift return, following his summons. 'taṃ śrutvā samanaprāptaṃ rāmaṃ' means that upon hearing the news of Rama's arrival nearby, the King immediately 'praveśyāmāsa gṛhaṃ' (ushered him into his inner apartment). This immediate admission highlights the King's eagerness to speak with Rama without delay. The core reason is given in the latter part of the verse: 'vivakṣuḥ priyamuttamam' (as he wished to tell him a supreme, dear message). The term 'priyamuttamam' is significant—King Dasharatha desired to personally and privately communicate the supremely auspicious and most cherished news, like the coronation, to his son, whom he loved above all else. The King summoning Rama to a private chamber indicates that the matter was exclusive to them, underscoring Rama's dignity as the Crown Prince and the King's profound paternal affection.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण के अयोध्याकाण्ड के चौथे सर्ग का है। इसमें महाराज दशरथ की तत्परता और उनके मन की भावना का वर्णन किया गया है जब श्रीराम उनकी आज्ञा पाकर शीघ्र ही लौट आए। 'तं श्रुत्वा समनुप्राप्तं रामम्' अर्थात् राम के पास आ जाने की सूचना मिलते ही, राजा ने तुरंत उन्हें अपने 'गृहं' (एकांत कक्ष या निवास) में 'प्रवेश्यामास' (प्रवेश कराया)। यह त्वरित प्रवेश राजा की अधीरता को दर्शाता है कि वह विलम्ब किए बिना राम से बात करना चाहते थे। इसका मुख्य कारण श्लोक के अंतिम भाग में है: 'विवक्षुः प्रियमुत्तमम्' (कोई उत्तम प्रिय बात कहना चाहते थे)। यहाँ 'प्रियमुत्तमम्' शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है—राजा दशरथ राम के राज्याभिषेक जैसा अत्यंत शुभ और परम प्रिय समाचार उन्हें एकांत में बताना चाहते थे, जिसे वे अपने पुत्र को सबसे बढ़कर मानते थे। राजा द्वारा राम को एकांत में बुलाना यह दर्शाता है कि यह बात केवल उनके और राम के बीच की है, जो राम के युवराज-पद की गरिमा और राजा के वात्सल्य को प्रकट करता है।
