तम् रथम् सूर्य सम्काशम् सीता हृष्टेन चेतसा ।
आरुरोह वर आरोहा कृत्वा अलम्कारम् आत्मनः ॥ ॥२-४०-१३॥
tam ratham sūrya samkāśam sītā hṛṣṭena cetasā |
āruroha vara ārohā kṛtvā alamkāram ātmanaḥ ॥2-40-13॥
Translation
Sita, the lady of excellent limbs, having adorned herself, ascended that chariot which shone like the sun, with a cheerful mind.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सूर्य के समान तेजस्वी उस रथ पर, सुंदर अंगों वाली (वरारोहा) सीता ने स्वयं को अलंकृत करके, प्रसन्न मन से आरोहण किया।
English Commentary
The phrase hrishtena cetasa (with a cheerful mind) is crucial here. While the entire city is grieving, Sita is happy because she is accompanying her husband. For her, the forest with Rama is preferable to the palace without him. She adorns herself not out of vanity, but because it is auspicious for a wife to be well-dressed while with her husband. This verse highlights her unwavering devotion and the fact that her happiness is entirely derived from Rama's presence.

यहाँ सीता के लिए 'हृष्टेन चेतसा' (प्रसन्न मन से) का प्रयोग अत्यंत महत्त्वपूर्ण है। पति के साथ वन जाना उनके लिए दुःख का नहीं, अपितु सुख का विषय है। उन्होंने स्वयं को अलंकृत किया है क्योंकि वे अपने पति के साथ जा रही हैं, और पति का सानिध्य ही स्त्री का सबसे बड़ा श्रृंगार माना गया है। 'सूर्य सम्काशम्' रथ राम के तेज का प्रतीक है। सीता का यह उत्साह उनके पातिव्रत्य धर्म की दृढ़ता को दर्शाता है।
