सीता तृतीयान् आरूढान् दृष्ट्वा धृष्टम् अचोदयत् ।
सुमन्त्रः सम्मतान् अश्वान् वायु वेग समान् जवे ॥ ॥२-४०-१७॥
sītā tṛtīyān ārūḍhān dṛṣṭvā dhṛṣṭam acodayat |
sumantraḥ sammatān aśvān vāyu vega samān jave ॥2-40-17॥
Translation
Seeing that the three, with Sita, had ascended, Sumantra urged the well-trained horses, which were equal to the wind in speed.

सीता सहित तीनों को रथ पर चढ़ा हुआ देखकर, सुमन्त्र ने वायु के समान वेग वाले उन उत्तम घोड़ों को (चलने के लिए) प्रेरित किया।
English Commentary
The tableau is set: Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita (the third) are on the chariot. Sumantra switches from grieving minister to professional charioteer. He drives the horses, described as vayu vega saman (swift as the wind), indicating a rapid departure. This speed is necessary not just for travel, but to escape the emotional gravity of the weeping city that threatens to engulf them.
