Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
महति एषा हि ते सिद्धिर् एष च अभ्युदयो महान् ।
एष स्वर्गस्य मार्गः च यद् एनम् अनुगच्चसि ॥ ॥२-४०-२६॥
mahati eṣā hi te siddhir eṣa ca abhyudayo mahān |
eṣa svargasya mārgaḥ ca yad enam anugaccasi ॥2-40-26॥
Translation
"This indeed is your great success, this is your great prosperity, and this is the path to heaven—that you are following him."

"यही तुम्हारी महान सिद्धि है, यही महान अभ्युदय (उन्नति) है, और यही स्वर्ग का मार्ग भी है कि तुम इनका (राम का) अनुसरण कर रहे हो।"
English Commentary
The citizens equate following Rama with Svarga (Heaven) and Mahan Abhyudaya (Great Prosperity). This redefines the concept of success. Usually, prosperity implies wealth and status, but here, it implies proximity to the Divine. The verse underscores that for Lakshmana, the path of righteous duty and brotherly love is the only true path to salvation.

यहाँ सेवा (Service) को ही स्वर्ग और मोक्ष का मार्ग बताया गया है। प्रजाजन लक्ष्मण से कह रहे हैं कि राम के पीछे चलना ('अनुगच्छसि') केवल शारीरिक क्रिया नहीं, बल्कि आध्यात्मिक उन्नति ('अभ्युदय') है। राम के साथ वन में रहना, अयोध्या में राम के बिना रहने से कहीं अधिक श्रेष्ठ और 'स्वर्ग' के समान है। यह श्लोक भाई के प्रति समर्पण की महिमा को स्थापित करता है।
