Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तथा रुदन्तीं कौसल्यां रथं तमनुधावतीम् ।
क्रोशन्तीं राम रामेति हा सीते लक्ष्मणेति च ॥ ॥२-४०-४४॥
Tathā rudantīm kausalyām ratham tamanudhāvatīm । Krośantīm rāma rāmeti hā sīte lakṣmaṇeti ca ॥ ॥2-40-44॥
Translation
Weeping in that manner and running after the chariot, Kausalya cried out aloud, "Rama! Rama! Oh Sita! Oh Lakshmana!"

उस प्रकार रोती हुई और रथ के पीछे दौड़ती हुई कौशल्या, "राम! राम! हा सीते! हा लक्ष्मण!"—इस प्रकार जोर-जोर से पुकार रही थीं।
English Commentary
Kausalya’s desperate cries reveal the breadth of her affection. She calls out not only to her biological son Rama but equally to Sita and Lakshmana. Her inclusion of Sita ("Ha Sita") is particularly poignant, acknowledging the tragedy of a young princess destined for the forest. By shouting their names repeatedly, she attempts a futile last-ditch effort to halt their departure. It showcases her character as a universal mother figure, grieving for all the children whom fate is snatching away from her.

कौशल्या का क्रंदन केवल अपने पुत्र तक सीमित नहीं है। वे सीता और लक्ष्मण को भी उसी व्याकुलता से पुकार रही हैं। सीता एक सुकुमार राजकुमारी हैं और लक्ष्मण राम के छोटे भाई—इन दोनों का वन जाना कौशल्या के लिए असहनीय है। वह बार-बार उनके नाम ले रही हैं, मानो उनके नाम पुकारने से रथ रुक जाएगा। यह श्लोक दिखाता है कि कौशल्या का हृदय कितना विशाल है; वे केवल एक 'कौशल्या-पुत्र' की माँ नहीं, बल्कि तीनों की माँ बनकर विलाप कर रही हैं।
