Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रामलक्ष्मणसीतार्थं स्रवन्तीं वारि नेत्रजम् ।
असकृत्प्रेक्षत तदा नृत्यन्तीमिव मातरम् ॥ ॥२-४०-४५॥
Rāmalakṣmaṇasītārtham sravantīm vāri netrajam । Asakṛtprekṣata tadā nṛtyantīmiva mātaram ॥ ॥2-40-45॥
Translation
Rama repeatedly looked at his mother, who was shedding tears for Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita. Due to her stumbling gait, she appeared as if she were dancing.

राम, लक्ष्मण और सीता के लिए आँखों से आंसू बहाती हुई माता को राम ने बार-बार देखा। दौड़ने और लड़खड़ाने के कारण वे (दुःख से) नाचती हुई सी प्रतीत हो रही थीं।
English Commentary
The use of the word nrityantim (dancing) is aesthetically brilliant yet tragically devastating. Kausalya is not dancing; she is stumbling, flailing her arms, and lurching forward in hysterical grief. To Rama, watching from the moving chariot, her frantic, unsteady movements through the blur of distance and tears appear rhythmically chaotic, like a macabre dance. This imagery conveys the total loss of physical control caused by psychological trauma. It creates a haunting visual that underscores the unnaturalness of the situation.

यहाँ 'नृत्यन्तीमिव' (मानो नाच रही हो) शब्द का प्रयोग अत्यंत त्रासद और गंभीर है। यह कोई खुशी का नृत्य नहीं है। दुःख के अतिरेक में कौशल्या जी का शरीर अनियंत्रित हो रहा है; वे दौड़ रही हैं, लड़खड़ा रही हैं, हाथ पटक रही हैं। रथ से देखने पर उनका यह विक्षिप्त हिलना-डुलना एक विभत्स नृत्य जैसा लग रहा है। यह उपमा स्थिति की भयानकता को बढ़ा देती है—एक माँ का दुःख उसे कठपुतली की तरह नचा रहा है। राम का उन्हें 'असकृत्' (बार-बार) देखना उनकी विवशता को दर्शाता है।
