Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रामस्य स वचः कुर्वन्ननुज्ञाप्य च तं जनम् ।
व्रजतोऽपि हयान् शीघ्रं चोदयामास सारथिः ॥ ॥२-४०-४८॥
Rāmasya sa vacaḥ kurvannanujñāpyca ca tam janam । Vrajato'pi hayān śīghram codayāmāsa sārathiḥ ॥ ॥2-40-48॥
Translation
Following Rama's words and taking leave of the people, the charioteer urged the horses, which were already moving, to go even faster.

राम के वचन का पालन करते हुए, और उस जनसमूह से (मानसिक) विदा लेकर, सारथी ने चलते हुए घोड़ों को और तेज गति से दौड़ाया।
English Commentary
Sumantra makes his choice, siding with Rama's foresight over the King's emotional outburst. By urging the horses faster, he physically enacts the separation. The phrase "taking leave of the people" implies a gesture of farewell or a mental apology, as he could not stop to do it formally. This acceleration marks the point of no return. The physical distance between the chariot and the grieving parents begins to widen rapidly, finalizing the exile.

सुमंत ने अंततः राम की बात मानी। उन्होंने समझ लिया कि राम का निर्णय ही अंतिम कल्याणकारी मार्ग है। उन्होंने भीड़ और राजा से मन ही मन विदा ली (क्योंकि रुकना संभव नहीं था) और घोड़ों की गति बढ़ा दी। यह वह निर्णायक क्षण है जहाँ अयोध्या से वियोग पूर्ण होता है। घोड़ों की गति का बढ़ना राजा दशरथ की उम्मीदों के टूटने का प्रतीक है। अब वापसी की कोई गुंजाइश नहीं बची।
