यमिच्छेत्पुनरायान्तं नैनं दूरमनुव्रजेत् ।
इत्यमात्या महाराजमूचुर्दशरथं वचः ॥ ॥२-४०-५०॥
Yamicchetpunarāyāntam nainam dūramanuvrajet । Ityamātyā mahārājamūcurdaśaratham vacaḥ ॥ ॥2-40-50॥
Translation
"One should not follow too far a departing loved one whom one wishes to see return"—thus the ministers spoke to Emperor Dasharatha.

"जिसके शीघ्र लौट आने की कामना हो, उसे विदा करते समय बहुत दूर तक उसके पीछे नहीं जाना चाहिए"—मंत्रियों ने महाराज दशरथ से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The ministers intervene with a mix of folklore and practicality to halt the King’s self-destructive pursuit. They invoke a traditional belief: following a departing traveler too far is considered inauspicious if one hopes for their return. This was a gentle, psychological tactic to make Dasharatha stop. By framing their advice around the "hope of Rama's return," they gave the desperate King a compelling reason to pause, safeguarding his failing health under the guise of adhering to an omen.

यहाँ मंत्रियों ने कूटनीति और लोक-विश्वास (shagun) का सहारा लेकर राजा को रोकने का प्रयास किया। दशरथ शारीरिक और मानसिक रूप से टूट रहे थे, उन्हें और आगे जाने देना घातक हो सकता था। इसलिए मंत्रियों ने यह प्रचलित मान्यता याद दिलाई कि यदि हम चाहते हैं कि कोई यात्री वापस आए, तो उसे बहुत दूर तक नहीं छोड़ना चाहिए। यह राजा को सांत्वना देने और उन्हें वापस महल ले जाने का एक मनोवैज्ञानिक उपाय था।
