Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दिशः पर्याकुलाः सर्वास्तिमिरेणेव संवृताः ।
न ग्रहो नापि नक्षत्रं प्रचकाशे न किंचन ॥ ॥२-४१-१४॥
Diśaḥ paryākulāḥ sarvāstimireṇeva saṃvṛtāḥ । Na graho nāpi nakṣatram pracakāśe na kiṃcana ॥ ॥2-41-14॥
Translation
All directions became confused and seemed covered in darkness. Neither any planet nor any star, nor anything else, shone forth.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सभी दिशाएं व्याकुल (धुंधली) हो गईं, मानो अंधकार से ढंक गई हों। न कोई ग्रह, न कोई नक्षत्र, और न ही कुछ और चमक रहा था।
English Commentary
A pervasive gloom descends upon the world. The "confusion of directions" suggests a loss of orientation—morally and physically, the people don't know which way to turn. The total absence of light (no stars, no planets) symbolizes the void left by Rama. It is a blackout of hope. The atmosphere reflects the collective depression of the populace; the world has literally and metaphorically turned dark.

यह श्लोक दिशाभ्रम और पूर्ण अंधकार का चित्रण करता है। जब जीवन का लक्ष्य (राम) ओझल हो गया, तो दिशाएं भी 'पर्याकुल' (अस्पष्ट) हो गईं। यह बाहरी अंधकार प्रजा के भीतर के हताशा का प्रतिबिंब है। 'न किंचन' (कुछ भी नहीं चमक रहा था)—यह शून्यता की स्थिति है। उम्मीद की सारी रोशनियां बुझ चुकी थीं। प्रकृति ने अयोध्या के शोक में अपना मुख काला कर लिया था।
