Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
बाष्पपर्याकुलमुखो राजमार्धगतो जनः ।
न हृष्टो लक्ष्यते कश्चित्सर्वः शोकपरायणः ॥ ॥२-४१-१७॥
Bāṣpaparyākulamukho rājamārgagato janaḥ । Na hṛṣṭo lakṣyate kaścitsarvaḥ śokaparāyaṇaḥ ॥ ॥2-41-17॥
Translation
The faces of the people on the royal highway were tear-stained. No one looked happy; everyone was wholly given over to grief.

राजमार्ग पर चलने वाले लोगों के चेहरे आंसुओं से भीगे हुए थे। कोई भी प्रसन्न दिखाई नहीं देता था; सब के सब शोक में डूबे हुए थे।
English Commentary
A snapshot of the royal highway (Rajamarga). Usually a place of bustle and commerce, it has turned into a procession of tear-stained faces. The verse emphasizes the universality of the grief—there wasn't a single happy face to be found. It suggests a community united in sorrow, where public spaces became venues for shared mourning rather than social interaction.

यह अयोध्या की सड़कों का एक दृश्य है। आमतौर पर राजमार्ग हलचल और व्यापार का केंद्र होते हैं, लेकिन आज वहाँ केवल मौन रुदन है। 'बाष्प' (आंसू) से सबके चेहरे ढके हैं। अजनबियों के बीच भी एक साझा दुख का रिश्ता बन गया है। 'सर्वः शोकपरायणः'—यानी एक भी अपवाद नहीं था; अमीर, गरीब, बच्चे, बूढ़े—हर कोई एक ही विषाद में सहभागी था।
