ये तु रामस्य सुहृदः सर्वे ते मूढचेतसः ।
शोकभारेण चाक्रान्ताः शयनं न जुहुस्तदा ॥ ॥२-४१-२०॥
Ye tu rāmasya suhṛdaḥ sarve te mūḍhacetasaḥ । Śokabhāreṇa cākrāntāḥ śayanam na juhustadā ॥ ॥2-41-20॥
Translation
Those who were Rama's friends became bewildered in their minds. Crushed by the weight of grief, they could not resort to sleep.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो राम के मित्र (सुहृद) थे, वे सभी सुध-बुध खो बैठे (मूढ़चित्त हो गए)। शोक के भार से दबे होने के कारण उन्होंने शयन (नींद) का त्याग कर दिया।
English Commentary
Rama’s close friends (suhridah) are described as being in a state of mental paralysis (mudhacetasah). The trauma of separation rendered them unable to function or process reality. The specific mention that they "did not resort to sleep" highlights their torment—insomnia caused by racing thoughts and heavy hearts. It underscores that Rama's circle of intimacy was wide, and for his peers, the loss was akin to losing a part of themselves.

राम के मित्रों की दशा सबसे विचित्र थी। वे 'मूढचेतसः' (किंकर्तव्यविमूढ़) हो गए—समझ नहीं पा रहे थे कि क्या करें। शोक ने उन्हें 'आक्रान्त' (दबोच) लिया था। 'शयनं न जुहुः' (नींद की आहुति नहीं दी / नहीं सोए) का अर्थ है कि उन्हें अनिद्रा ने घेर लिया। मित्र के साथ बिताए पल और उनके वन जाने का विचार उन्हें रात भर जगाता रहा। यह श्लोक युवा वर्ग की मानसिक पीड़ा को व्यक्त करता है।
