इति सर्वा महिष्यस्ता विवत्सा इव धेनवः ।
रुरुदुश्चैव दुःखार्ताः सस्वरं च विचुकुशुः ॥ ॥२-४१-७॥
Iti sarvā mahiṣyastā vivatsā iva dhenavaḥ । Ruruduścaiva duḥkhārtāḥ sasvaram ca vicukuśuः ॥ ॥2-41-7॥
Translation
Thus, all the queens, like cows deprived of their calves, wept in affliction and cried out aloud.

इस प्रकार वे सभी रानियाँ, बछड़ों से रहित गायों की भांति, दुःख से पीड़ित होकर रोने लगीं और ऊँचे स्वर में विलाप करने लगीं।
English Commentary
The metaphor of the cow bereft of its calf recurs, emphasizing the primal, maternal nature of the grief enveloping the palace. It is not a silent mourning; it is loud and collective (sasvaram). The phrase sarva mahishyah (all queens) confirms that Rama's exile shattered the entire royal household, uniting all the women in a shared tragedy, regardless of their individual relationship with him.

एक बार फिर 'विवत्सा धेनवः' (बछड़े के बिना गाय) की उपमा का प्रयोग किया गया है, जो इस कांड में वात्सल्य और वियोग का केंद्रीय रूपक है। यह केवल कौशल्या का विलाप नहीं है, बल्कि 'सर्वा महिष्यः' (सभी पटरानियों) का सामूहिक क्रंदन है। पूरा अंतःपुर एक गौशाला जैसा लग रहा है जहाँ से बछड़े को जबरन ले जाया गया है और सभी गायें रंभा रही हैं। 'सस्वरं' (ऊंचे स्वर में) बताता है कि अब मर्यादा का बंधन टूट चुका है।
