Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
महा ह्रदम् इव अक्षोभ्यम् सुपर्णेन हृत उरगम् ।
रामेण रहितम् वेश्म वैदेह्या लक्ष्मणेन च ॥२-४२-२४॥
mahā hradam iva akṣobhyam suparṇena hṛta uragam |
rāmeṇa rahitam veśma vaidehyā lakṣmaṇena ca ॥2-42-24॥
Translation
The King entered his palace, which, being devoid of Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana, was (calm/motionless) like an unagitated great lake whose serpents (or vital life) had been taken away by Suparna (Garuda).

(राजा ने अपने) उस महल में प्रवेश किया, जो राम, सीता और लक्ष्मण से रहित होने के कारण, महान सरोवर के समान अक्षोभ्य (शांत) था, जिसके नाग (मत्स्य या जीव) गरुड़ द्वारा हर लिए गए हों।
English Commentary
This verse describes the dreadful emptiness of the king's palace. The palace is compared to an 'akṣobhyam mahā hradam iva' (calm/unagitated great lake). Here, 'akṣobhyam' signifies not peace, but an eerie and unpleasant stillness. Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana—who were the vibrant serpents (or the vital life) of the palace—have been taken away by 'Suparṇena' (by Garuda, here by the destiny that led to Rama's exile). This 'calmness' of the palace is actually the absence of life and energy. Just as the lake becomes empty when Garuda takes the serpent, the palace has become empty and mournful with the departure of the three. The king enters a palace that is now only a hollow and cold shell for him.

यह श्लोक राजा के महल की भयावह शून्यता का वर्णन करता है। महल की तुलना एक 'महा ह्रदम् इव अक्षोभ्यम्' (महान सरोवर के समान शांत/अक्षुब्ध) से की गई है। यहाँ 'अक्षोभ्यम्' का अर्थ शांति नहीं, बल्कि एक अजीब और अप्रिय स्थिरता है। राम, सीता और लक्ष्मण—जो महल के जीवंत उरग (नाग/जीवन) थे—वे 'सुपर्णेन' (गरुड़ द्वारा, यहाँ राम के वनगमन रूपी नियति द्वारा) हर लिए गए हैं। महल की यह 'शांति' वास्तव में जीवन और ऊर्जा की अनुपस्थिति है। जिस तरह गरुड़ के नाग को उठा लेने से सरोवर खाली हो जाता है, उसी तरह तीनों के जाने से महल खाली और उदास हो गया है। राजा उस महल में प्रवेश करते हैं जो अब उनके लिए एक खाली और ठंडा खोल मात्र है।
