Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अगृह्णाम् यच् च ते पाणिम् अग्निम् पर्यणयम् च यत् ।
अनुजानामि तत् सर्वम् अस्मिम्ल् लोके परत्र च ॥२-४२-८॥
agṛhṇām yac ca te pāṇim agnim paryaṇayam ca yat |
anujānāmi tat sarvam asmiml loke paratra ca ॥2-42-8॥
Translation
"The hand of yours that I clasped and the sacred fire I circumambulated (during our marriage)—I renounce all of that, in this world and the next."

"विवाह के समय मैंने जो तुम्हारा हाथ पकड़ा था और जो अग्नि की परिक्रमा की थी, उस सबको मैं इसलोक और परलोक के लिए त्यागता हूँ।"
English Commentary
This verse is technically and spiritually devastating. Dasharatha is nullifying the sacramental rites of marriage—the Panigrahana (holding hands) and the circumambulation of the Agni (sacred fire). Vedic marriage is considered a bond that transcends death. However, Dasharatha explicitly severs this connection for asmiml loke (this world) and paratra ca (the next world). This implies that he refuses to be associated with her even as ancestors/spirits. It highlights the gravity of Kaikeyi's sin in his eyes; she has not just ruined a political succession or a family dynamic, she has destroyed the spiritual sanctity of their union.

यह श्लोक विवाह-विच्छेद की चरम सीमा है। हिंदू विवाह 'पाणिग्रहण' और 'अग्नि-साक्षी' (सप्तपदी) के माध्यम से जन्म-जन्मांतर का बंधन माना जाता है। दशरथ यहाँ उन वैदिक संस्कारों को ही नकार रहे हैं। 'अनुजानामि' का अर्थ यहाँ 'त्यागना' या 'अस्वीकार करना' के संदर्भ में है। 'परत्र च' (परलोक में भी) कहकर वे यह सुनिश्चित कर रहे हैं कि मृत्यु के बाद भी कैकेयी का उनसे कोई संबंध न रहे, ताकि उन्हें पितृलोक में उसके कारण लज्जित न होना पड़े। यह एक आहत पति का सबसे कठोर निर्णय है, जो सिद्ध करता है कि राम का वनवास उनके लिए मृत्यु से भी बड़ा आघात है।
