कदा परिणतः बुद्ध्या वयसा च अमर प्रभः ।
अभ्युपैष्यति धर्मज्ञः त्रिवर्षैव माम् ललन् ॥२-४३-१६॥
kadā pariṇataḥ buddhyā vayasā ca amara prabhaḥ । abhyupaiṣyati dharmajñaḥ trivarṣaiva mām lalan ॥2-43-16॥
Translation
When will (that time come) when Rama, who is mature in intellect and age, who shines like a god, and who knows dharma, will approach me, fondling me (like a child), after three years?

कब (वह समय आएगा), जब परिपक्व बुद्धि और आयु वाला, देवताओं की प्रभा के समान, धर्मज्ञ (राम), मुझे (बालक की तरह) दुलारते हुए, तीन वर्ष बाद मेरे पास आएंगे?
English Commentary
A notable discrepancy appears in this verse: Rama's maturity in age and intellect (pariṇataḥ buddhyā vayasā), his divine luster (amara prabhaḥ), and his knowledge of dharma (dharmajñaḥ) contrast with his approaching her, 'fondling me (like a child) after three years' (trivarṣaiva mām lalan). The act of 'fondling' (lalan) is usually associated with a child, yet Kausalya desires this from her mature son, highlighting the depth of her maternal affection. Chronologically, this verse does not align with the established 14-year exile. This might be a textual variant or an error arising from Kausalya's intense wish for Rama's swift return, desiring it to be after only three years.
