Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अयम् हि माम् दीपयते समुत्थितः ।
तनूज शोक प्रभवो हुत अशनः ।
महीम् इमाम् रश्मिभिर् उत्तम प्रभो ।
यथा निदाघे भगवान् दिवा करः ॥२-४३-२१॥
ayam hi mām dīpayate samutthitaḥ । tanūja śoka prabhavo huta aśanaḥ । mahīm imām raśmibhir uttama prabho । yathā nidāghe bhagavān divā karaḥ ॥2-43-21॥
Translation
This fire, originating from the sorrow for my son, is burning me up, just as the glorious Sun, with his excellent rays, burns this earth in the summer.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यह मेरे पुत्र के शोक से उत्पन्न हुई अग्नि मुझे उसी प्रकार जला रही है, जिस प्रकार ग्रीष्म ऋतु में भगवान सूर्य अपनी उत्तम किरणों से इस पृथ्वी को (जलाते हैं)।
English Commentary
This verse concludes the initial phase of Kausalya's lamentation with a powerful metaphor. The grief arising from the sorrow for her son is described as a 'fire' (huta aśanaḥ) that is burning her internally. This suffering is compared to the way 'the glorious Sun in summer' (nidāghe bhagavān divā karaḥ) scorches the earth with its rays. This analogy conveys the intensity of her pain and the unbearable nature of her affliction. Just as the Sun parches the entire earth, the sorrow for her son is consuming Kausalya's entire being, leaving her with no peace.
