शयानम् अनघम् रात्रौ पिता इव अभिपरिष्वजन् ।
रश्मिभिः सम्स्पृशन् शीतैः चन्द्रमा ह्लादयिष्यति ॥२-४४-१०॥
śayānam anagham rātrau pitā iva abhipariṣvajān । raśmibhiḥ saṃspṛśan śītaiḥ candramā hlādayiṣyati ॥2-44-10॥
Translation
The Moon, touching the sinless Rama with its cool rays, will delight him, embracing him at night while he sleeps, just like a father.

रात में सोते हुए निष्पाप (राम) को चंद्रमा, ठंडी किरणों से स्पर्श करता हुआ, पिता के समान आलिंगन करके आनंदित करेगा।
English Commentary
The sentiment of consolation here becomes deeply personal. Sumitra employs a beautiful and emotional metaphor: the Moon (candramā) at night will delight Rama by embracing him 'just like a father' (pitā iva abhipariṣvajān). Since Rama is in the forest due to his father Dasharatha's promise, this metaphor compensates for the separation. The touch of 'cool rays' (śītaiḥ raśmibhiḥ) provides not only physical coolness but also emotional solace. This is meant to reassure Kausalya that Rama is not alone; rather, the Moon, the most serene force in nature, is extending divine protection and love to him.
