अभिवादयमानं तं दृष्ट्वा ससुहृदं सुतम् ।
मुदा अश्रु मोक्ष्यसे क्षिप्रं मेघरेखा इव वार्षिकी ॥ ॥२-४४-२७॥
abhivādayamānaṃ taṃ dṛṣṭvā sasuhṛdaṃ sutam । mudā aśru mokṣyase kṣipraṃ megharekhā iva vārṣikī ॥ ॥2-44-27॥
Translation
Seeing your son, accompanied by his friends, bowing to you, you will soon shed tears of joy just as a line of rain clouds sheds water during the monsoon.

मित्रों सहित अपने पुत्र को प्रणाम करते हुए देखकर, आप वर्षाकालीन मेघमाला की भाँति शीघ्र ही हर्ष के आंसू बरसाएंगी।
English Commentary
This verse utilizes a classic simile found in Sanskrit poetry. Kausalya is compared to a varshiki megharekha (a line of monsoon clouds). Just as heavy clouds release their burden as rain, finding relief, Kausalya will release the heaviness of her heart through tears of joy upon seeing Rama. The term sasuhridam (with friends/well-wishers) implies that Rama will return with his entourage (Lakshmana and Sita), restoring the social fullness of Kausalya's life.

वाल्मीकि रामायण में उपमाओं का सुंदर प्रयोग है। यहाँ कौशल्या की तुलना 'वर्षकालीन मेघमाला' से की गई है। जिस प्रकार वर्षा ऋतु में बादल पानी से भारी होकर बरस पड़ते हैं और हल्के हो जाते हैं, उसी प्रकार राम को देखते ही कौशल्या के हृदय का भारीपन हर्ष के आंसुओं के रूप में बह निकलेगा। 'ससुहृदं' (मित्रों/स्वजनों सहित) शब्द बताता है कि राम अकेले नहीं, बल्कि अपने पूरे परिवार (लक्ष्मण, सीता) के साथ लौटेंगे।
