कीर्ति भूताम् पताकाम् यो लोके भ्रामयति प्रभुः ।
दम सत्य व्रत परः किम् न प्राप्तः तव आत्मजः ॥२-४४-७॥
kīrti bhūtām patākām yo loke bhrāmayati prabhuḥ । dama satya vrata paraḥ kim na prāptaḥ tava ātmajaḥ ॥2-44-7॥
Translation
What has your son not attained—he who is a lord, hoisting the flag of his fame throughout the world, and who is supremely devoted to self-control (dama) and the vow of truth?

आपका पुत्र, जो अपनी कीर्ति रूपी पताका को संसार में फहराता है, जो आत्म-संयम (दम) और सत्य के व्रत में लीन है, उसने क्या प्राप्त नहीं किया है?
English Commentary
In this verse, Sumitra emphasizes Rama's spiritual and ethical achievements over material wealth. She states that Rama has spread his fame like a 'flag of glory' (kīrti bhūtām patākām) throughout the world. Her main emphasis is on dama (self-control) and satya vrata (vow of truth), which are the pillars of dharma. Sumitra's rhetorical question ('What has he not attained?') suggests that by sacrificing the kingdom, Rama has achieved the highest moral and spiritual goals, which are far more valuable than any worldly possession. Therefore, they should celebrate his great achievement rather than grieve.
