व्यक्तम् रामस्य विज्ञाय शौचम् माहात्म्यम् उत्तमम् ।
न गात्रम् अम्शुभिः सूर्यः सम्तापयितुम् अर्हति ॥२-४४-८॥
vyaktam rāmasya vijñāya śaucam māhātmyam uttamam । na gātram aṃśubhiḥ sūryaḥ saṃtāpayitum arhati ॥2-44-8॥
Translation
Clearly, knowing Rama's purity and his supreme greatness, the Sun will not be able to burn (or distress) his body with its rays.
हिंदी अनुवाद
निश्चित रूप से, राम की पवित्रता और उनके उत्तम माहात्म्य को जानकर, सूर्य अपनी किरणों से उनके शरीर को जलाने (या कष्ट देने) के योग्य नहीं होगा।
English Commentary
This verse argues that Rama's moral superiority will shield him even from natural elements. Sumitra asserts that Rama's śaucam (purity) and māhātmyam uttamam (supreme greatness) are so profound that the Sun (sūryaḥ) itself will respect him. This is a hyperbolic statement intended to reassure Kausalya that Rama will remain unaffected by the physical hardships of the forest. This belief is rooted in the doctrine of dharma, where nature cooperates with the righteous. Sumitra seeks to assure Kausalya that no harm will befall Rama in the forest, as his undertaking is sacred.
