न च तप्येद् यथा च असौ वन वासम् गते मयि ।
महा राजः तथा कार्यो मम प्रिय चिकीर्षया ॥२-४५-१०॥
na ca tapyed yathā ca asau vana vāsam gate mayi |
mahā rājaḥ tathā kāryo mama priya cikīrṣayā ॥2-45-10॥
Translation
And when I have gone to the forest exile, you should act in such a way, for my sake, that the great King (Daśaratha) does not suffer (grieve).
हिंदी अनुवाद
और जब मैं वनवास चला गया हूँ, तो मेरे प्रिय के लिए, महाराज (दशरथ) को किसी प्रकार का कष्ट (संताप) न हो, ऐसा ही तुम्हें करना चाहिए।
English Commentary
This statement by Rāma proves his ultimate devotion to his father. His focus remains on his father's suffering. He knew that King Daśaratha would suffer the most from his departure. Therefore, he requests the subjects to create conditions such that the King does not suffer. This is an emotional appeal, where Rāma motivates them to act by saying 'for my sake' (mama priya cikīrṣayā). The practical implication was that the people should maintain peace and order in Ayodhyā by accepting Bharata's rule, so that no further mental distress would be inflicted upon the King.

राम का यह कथन उनके परम पितृभक्त होने को सिद्ध करता है। उनका ध्यान अब भी अपने पिता की पीड़ा पर केंद्रित है। वह जानते थे कि उनके जाने का सबसे बड़ा दुःख राजा दशरथ को होगा। इसलिए, वह प्रजा से अनुरोध करते हैं कि वे ऐसी परिस्थितियाँ बनाएँ कि राजा को संताप न हो। यह एक भावुक अपील है, जहाँ 'मेरे प्रिय के लिए' (mama priya cikīrṣayā) कहकर राम उन्हें यह कार्य करने के लिए प्रेरित करते हैं। इसका व्यावहारिक अर्थ यह था कि प्रजा को भरत के शासन को स्वीकार करके अयोध्या में शांति और व्यवस्था बनाए रखनी चाहिए, जिससे राजा को कोई और मानसिक आघात न पहुँचे।
