Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पद्भ्याम् एव जगाम अथ ससीतः सह लक्ष्मणः ।
सम्निकृष्ट पद न्यासो रामः वन परायणः ॥२-४५-१८॥
padbhyām eva jagāma atha sasītaḥ saha lakṣmaṇaḥ |
samnikṛṣṭa pada nyāso rāmaḥ vana parāyaṇaḥ ॥2-45-18॥
Translation
Then, Rāma, who was intent on going to the forest, walked on foot, accompanied by Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa; his steps were measured and close together.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब वन जाने के लिए तत्पर राम, सीता और लक्ष्मण के साथ, अपने पैरों से ही चलने लगे, उनके चरण सधे हुए और पास-पास पड़ रहे थे।
English Commentary
After descending from the chariot, Rāma started his journey on foot. The phrase 'vana parāyaṇaḥ' (intent on going to the forest) shows his total dedication to his duty. The description 'samnikṛṣṭa pada nyāso' (steps were measured and close together) indicates that he did not rush. This was a calm, composed, and controlled pace, designed to allow the Brahmins to gradually fall behind. This was another thoughtful act by Rāma to continue his journey without frustrating anyone unduly. Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa also walked with him, further reinforcing their spirit of sacrifice and service.

रथ से उतरने के बाद, राम ने पैदल यात्रा शुरू कर दी। 'वन परायणः' (वन जाने के लिए तत्पर) शब्द दर्शाता है कि वह अपने कर्तव्य के प्रति कितने समर्पित थे। 'सम्निकृष्ट पद न्यासो' (चरण सधे हुए और पास-पास पड़ रहे) यह दर्शाता है कि उन्होंने जल्दी भागने की कोशिश नहीं की। यह एक शांत, संयमित और नियंत्रित गति थी, जो ब्राह्मणों को धीरे-धीरे पीछे छूटने का मौका दे सके। यह राम का एक और विचारशील कार्य था, जिससे वे बिना किसी को निराश किए अपनी यात्रा जारी रख सकें। सीता और लक्ष्मण भी उनके साथ पैदल चले, जो उनकी त्याग और सेवा की भावना को और मजबूत करता है।
