Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
या हि नः सततम् बुद्धिर् वेद मन्त्र अनुसारिणी ।
त्वत् कृते सा कृता वत्स वन वास अनुसारिणी ॥ ॥२-४५-२४॥
Yā hi naḥ satatam buddhir veda mantra anusāriṇī । Tvat kṛte sā kṛtā vatsa vana vāsa anusāriṇī ॥ ॥2-45-24॥
Translation
O dear child! Our intellect, which was constantly engaged in following the Vedic mantras, has now, for your sake, resolved to follow the life of the forest.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वत्स! हमारी जो बुद्धि सदा वेदमंत्रों के विचार में ही लगी रहती थी, वह अब तुम्हारे कारण वनवास का अनुसरण करने वाली बन गई है।
English Commentary
This verse signifies a monumental shift in the priorities of the learned Brahmins. For a Vedic scholar, the intellect is permanently tethered to the study and contemplation of Vedic mantras—this is their highest duty. However, their love for Rama is so compelling that it has redirected their focus from the abstract scriptures to the physical hardships of the forest. By stating that their minds now follow the 'forest life,' they imply that being with Rama is the ultimate spiritual practice. It suggests that the living Dharma (Rama) takes precedence over the textual Dharma (Vedas).

यहाँ 'बुद्धि' के परिवर्तन का उल्लेख अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। एक श्रोत्रिय ब्राह्मण के लिए वेद ही जीवन का केंद्र होते हैं। उनका मन निरंतर मन्त्रों के अर्थ और अनुष्ठान में लगा रहता है। परन्तु, राम के प्रति प्रेम इतना प्रबल है कि उसने उस एकाग्रता को भी बदल दिया है। उनका यह कहना कि अब उनकी बुद्धि 'वनवास-अनुसारिणी' हो गई है, यह दर्शाता है कि राम का साथ ही अब उनका सबसे बड़ा वेद और धर्म है। वेदों का ज्ञान उन्हें जो शांति देता था, अब वही शांति उन्हें राम के साथ वन में भटकने में मिलेगी। यह ज्ञान पर भक्ति की विजय का प्रतीक है।
