न पुनर् निश्चयः कार्यः त्वद् गतौ सुकृता मतिः ।
त्वयि धर्म व्यपेक्षे तु किम् स्यात् धर्मम् अवेक्षितुम् ॥ ॥२-४५-२६॥
Na punar niścayaḥ kāryaḥ tvad gatau sukṛtā matiḥ । Tvayi dharma vyapekṣe tu kim syāt dharmam avekṣitum ॥ ॥2-45-26॥
Translation
No reconsideration is necessary; our minds are firmly resolved to follow you. If you disregard Dharma (by ignoring your devotees), then what remains of the observance of Dharma?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हमारे विषय में फिर से विचार करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है, हमारी बुद्धि आपके साथ चलने का पक्का निश्चय कर चुकी है। यदि आप ही धर्म (भक्तों की रक्षा) की उपेक्षा करेंगे, तो फिर धर्म का पालन कौन करेगा?
English Commentary
This verse presents a logical dilemma posed by the devotees to Rama. They assert that their decision to follow him is irrevocable. More importantly, they utilize a rhetorical trap centred on Dharma. Since Rama is the guardian of Dharma, they argue that he has a duty to protect and listen to his subjects. If he ignores their plea, he is essentially neglecting a facet of Dharma. It is a desperate yet intelligent appeal, suggesting that without Rama accepting his devotees, the very concept of righteousness becomes hollow.
