ततः सुमन्त्रोऽपि रथाद्विमुच्य ।
श्रान्तान्हयान्सम्परिवर्त्य श्रीघ्राम् ।
पीतोदकाम्स्तोयपरिप्लुताङ्गा ।
नचारयद्वै तमसाविदूरे ॥ ॥२-४५-३३॥
Tataḥ sumantro'pi rathādvimucya । Śrāntānhayānsamparivartya śrīghrām । Pītodakāmstoyapariplutāṅgā । nacārayadvai tamasāvidūre ॥ ॥2-45-33॥
Translation
Then Sumantra unyoked the tired horses from the chariot, quickly refreshed them (by letting them roll on the ground), bathed and watered them, and allowed them to graze not far from the Tamasa river.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनंतर सुमन्त्र ने भी थके हुए घोड़ों को रथ से खोलकर, उन्हें लोट-पोट कराकर (उनकी थकान दूर की), और उन्हें पानी पिलाकर व नहलाकर तमसा नदी के समीप ही चरने के लिए छोड़ दिया।
English Commentary
This verse shifts the tone from high emotion to the practical realities of travel. Sumantra, the disciplined charioteer, attends to the needs of the exhausted horses immediately upon halting. यह श्लोक कथा के प्रवाह को भावनात्मक आवेग से व्यावहारिक क्रिया की ओर ले जाता है। सुमन्त्र एक कुशल सारथी हैं; इतने कोलाहल और शोक के बीच भी वे अपना कर्तव्य नहीं भूलते। घोड़ों की सेवा—उन्हें पानी पिलाना, नहलाना और चरने देना—यह दर्शाता है कि राम का वनवास केवल मनुष्यों की ही नहीं, पशुओं की भी परीक्षा है। यह रात्रि विश्राम की तैयारी है। 'शीघ्रम्' शब्द दर्शाता है कि सुमन्त्र घोड़ों के कष्ट को दूर करने के लिए तत्पर थे।
