स हि कल्याण चारित्रः कैकेय्या आनन्द वर्धनः ।
करिष्यति यथावद् वः प्रियाणि च हितानि च ॥२-४५-७॥
sa hi kalyāṇa cāritraḥ kaikeyā ānanda vardhanaḥ |
kariṣyati yathāvad vaḥ priyāṇi ca hitāni ca ॥2-45-7॥
Translation
Indeed, he, Bharata, who is of auspicious character, the one who increases Kaikeyī's joy, will duly perform what is pleasing and beneficial for you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
निश्चय ही वे कल्याणकारी चरित्र वाले भरत, कैकेयी के आनंद को बढ़ाने वाले, तुम्हारे प्रिय (इच्छाओं) और हितकारी (आवश्यकताओं) कार्यों को उचित रीति से करेंगे।
English Commentary
Rāma praises Bharata's qualities here so that the people will accept his rule. He describes him as having an 'auspicious character' (kalyāṇa cāritraḥ), ensuring that Bharata will be a righteous king. By mentioning 'the one who increases Kaikeyī's joy' (kaikeyā ānanda vardhanaḥ), Rāma acknowledges the fact that Bharata's coronation is the result of his mother's wish, but simultaneously makes it clear that Bharata himself will perform deeds that are 'pleasing' and 'beneficial' to the subjects. Rāma assures the people that Bharata will accomplish his tasks properly by following the path of Dharma and justice.
