सभार्यम् सम्प्रसुप्तम् तम् भ्रातरम् वीक्ष्य लक्ष्मणः ।
कथयाम् आस सूताय रामस्य विविधान् गुणान् ॥ ॥२-४६-१५॥
Sabhāryam samprasuptam tam bhrātaram vīkṣya lakṣmaṇaḥ । Kathayām āsa sūtāya rāmasya vividhān guṇān ॥ ॥2-46-15॥
Translation
Seeing his brother sleeping soundly along with his wife, Lakshmana began to narrate the various virtues of Rama to the charioteer (Sumantra).

अपनी पत्नी सहित भाई राम को भली-भांति सोया हुआ देखकर, लक्ष्मण ने सूत (सुमंत्र) से राम के अनेक गुणों का वर्णन करना आरम्भ किया।
English Commentary
Lakshmana assumes the role of the vigilant guardian. Instead of sleeping, he watches over his brother and sister-in-law. To pass the time and perhaps to cope with the emotional weight of seeing the future King sleeping on the ground, he discusses Rama's virtues with Sumantra. This act of talking about the beloved's qualities (gunas) serves as spiritual sustenance for Lakshmana. It marks the beginning of his 14-year vigil, highlighting his incredible sacrifice and love.

लक्ष्मण सो नहीं रहे हैं। वे पहरा दे रहे हैं। अपने बड़े भाई को जमीन पर सोते देख उनका हृदय भर आता है, और वे सुमंत्र से राम के गुणों की चर्चा करने लगते हैं। जब हम किसी प्रियजन को कष्ट में देखते हैं, तो अक्सर हम उसकी अच्छाइयों को याद करके भावुक होते हैं और मन को ढाढस बंधाते हैं। लक्ष्मण का यह जागरण 'गुडाकेश' (नींद को जीतने वाला) बनने की दिशा में पहला कदम है। वे पूरी रात राम की महिमा का गान करते हुए बिताते हैं, जो उनकी अनन्य भक्ति का परिचायक है।
