Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उत्थाय तु महा तेजाः प्रकृतिस्ता निशाम्य च ।
अब्रवीद् भ्रातरम् रामः लक्ष्मणम् पुण्य लक्षणम् ॥ ॥२-४६-१८॥
Utthāya tu mahā tejāḥ prakṛtīs tā niśāmya ca । Abravīd bhrātaram rāmaḥ lakṣmaṇam puṇya lakṣaṇam ॥ ॥2-46-18॥
Translation
Having risen (early), the immensely radiant Rama, observing those subjects (sleeping), spoke to his brother Lakshmana, who is endowed with auspicious marks.
हिंदी अनुवाद
महातेजस्वी राम (ब्रह्म मुहूर्त में) उठकर और उन प्रजाजनों को (सोता हुआ) देखकर, अपने पुण्य-लक्षण वाले भाई लक्ष्मण से बोले।
English Commentary
Rama, described as Maha-tejah (resplendent/great glory), wakes up before the others. Seeing the exhausted citizens sleeping, he realizes this is the strategic moment to act. He addresses Lakshmana, the Punya-lakshanam (one with auspicious signs), signaling the beginning of a decisive plan. Rama understands that emotional attachments often hinder the path of duty, and he must now act with detachment to fulfill his father's vow.

राम 'महातेजाः' हैं, वे मोह में फँसकर देर तक नहीं सोते। वे सूर्योदय से पूर्व जाग गए हैं। नागरिकों को सोता देखकर उनके मन में एक योजना आती है। वे लक्ष्मण को संबोधित करते हैं जो 'पुण्य लक्षणम्' (शुभ लक्षणों वाले) हैं। राम जानते हैं कि यदि वे नागरिकों के जागने का इंतज़ार करेंगे, तो वे उन्हें आगे नहीं जाने देंगे। इसलिए, एक नेता की भांति, वे भावनाओं से ऊपर उठकर कठोर कर्तव्य का निर्णय लेते हैं।
