Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सूतः ततः सम्त्वरितः स्यन्दनम् तैः हय उत्तमैः ।
योजयित्वा अथ रामाय प्रान्जलिः प्रत्यवेदयत् ॥ ॥२-४६-२६॥
sūtaḥ tataḥ samtvaritaḥ syandanam taiḥ haya uttamaiḥ |
yojayitvā atha rāmāya prāñjaliḥ pratyavedayat ॥2-46-26॥
Translation
Then, the charioteer (Sumantra) quickly yoked those excellent horses to the chariot and, with joined palms, informed Rama that it was ready.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब सूत (सुमंत्र) ने शीघ्रतापूर्वक उन उत्तम घोड़ों को रथ में जोता और हाथ जोड़कर श्रीराम को (रथ तैयार होने की) सूचना दी।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Sumantra's dutiful nature amidst a tragic duty. Although his heart is heavy knowing this journey leads to exile, he acts samtvaritaḥ (quickly) to aid Rama's plan of slipping away unnoticed. His gesture of joined palms (prāñjaliḥ) signifies not just etiquette, but the deep reverence and perhaps the helpless submission to the will of Rama. It marks the transition from the resting phase to the active departure, executed with silence and speed to avoid waking the sleeping citizens.

यह श्लोक सुमंत्र की कर्तव्यनिष्ठा और परिस्थिति की गंभीरता को दर्शाता है। यद्यपि सुमंत्र का हृदय भारी है क्योंकि वे जानते हैं कि यह यात्रा राम को वनवास की ओर ले जा रही है, फिर भी एक सारथी के रूप में वे 'सम्त्वरितः' (शीघ्रता) से कार्य करते हैं। हाथ जोड़कर (प्रांजलि) निवेदन करना न केवल शिष्टाचार है, बल्कि उस विवशता और सम्मान का प्रतीक है जो वे अपने स्वामी के प्रति रखते हैं। अब अयोध्या के नागरिकों से चुपचाप दूर जाने का समय आ गया है।
