Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पितरम् चानुशोचामि मातरम् च यशस्विनीम् ।
अपि वानौध भवेताम् तु रुदन्तौ तावभीक्ष्णशः ॥ ॥२-४६-६॥
Pitaram cānuśocāmi mātaram ca yaśasvinīm । Api vānaudha bhavetām tu rudantau tāvabhīkṣṇaśaḥ ॥ ॥2-46-6॥
Translation
I grieve for my father and my illustrious mother. I fear that they might even go blind from weeping incessantly.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं पिता जी और यशस्विनी माता (कौशल्या) के लिए शोक कर रहा हूँ। मुझे डर है कि कहीं वे निरंतर रोते-रोते अंधे न हो जाएं।
English Commentary
Rama reveals his deepest vulnerability here: the fear for his parents' physical health due to grief. The specific mention of them potentially going blind (andhau bhavetām) underscores the intensity of the sorrow he anticipates they are feeling. It is a poignant expression of filial piety. Rama is not worried about the kingdom's administration as much as he is about the personal toll this tragedy will take on the aging King and Queen.

राम का यह भय अतिशयोक्ति नहीं, बल्कि गहरे प्रेम और चिंता का लक्षण है। निरंतर रोने से दृष्टि खोने का डर, उनके माता-पिता के वियोग की तीव्रता को दर्शाता है। राम को अपनी 'यशस्विनी' (यश वाली) माता कौशल्या की चिंता है, जिनका जीवन अब केवल पुत्र-वियोग में बीतेगा। यह श्लोक राम के मानवीय पक्ष को दिखाता है—वे ईश्वर होते हुए भी एक पुत्र की वेदना से अछूते नहीं हैं। 'मातृ-पितृ भक्ति' यहाँ अपने चरम करुण रूप में दिखाई देती है।
