सा नूनम् नगरी दीना दृष्ट्वाऽस्मान् राघवम् विना ।
भविष्यति निरानन्दा सस्त्रीबालवयोधिका ॥ ॥२-४७-१०॥
sā nūnam nagarī dīnā dṛṣṭvāsmān rāghavam vinā |
bhaviṣyati nirānandā sastrībālavayodhikā ॥2-47-10॥
Translation
Surely that city, along with its women, children, and elders, will become wretched and joyless upon seeing us without Raghava.

निश्चित ही वह नगरी (अयोध्या), स्त्री, बच्चों और वृद्धों सहित हमें राम के बिना देखकर दीन और आनंद रहित हो जाएगी।
English Commentary
Empathy for those left behind takes over. The travelers visualize the reaction of the women, children, and elderly in Ayodhya. They realize their return will confirm the worst fears of the populace. The city is predicted to become nirānandā (joyless). The travelers burden themselves with the knowledge that they are the bearers of this crushing reality, transforming the vibrant capital into a city of mourning.

नागरिक अब अपने दुख से आगे बढ़कर उन लोगों के दुख की कल्पना कर रहे हैं जो नगर में हैं। वे जानते हैं कि जब वे अकेले लौटेंगे, तो उनकी वापसी ही इस बात की पुष्टि कर देगी कि राम चले गए। 'निरानन्दा' (आनंद रहित) शब्द भविष्य की अयोध्या का चित्र खींचता है—एक ऐसा नगर जहाँ उत्सव और खुशी के लिए कोई स्थान नहीं बचा। वे अपनी वापसी को एक दु:खद समाचार के रूप में देख रहे हैं।
