ततः यथा आगतेन एव मार्गेण क्लान्त चेतसः ।
अयोध्याम् अगमन् सर्वे पुरीम् व्यथित सज्जनाम् ॥ ॥२-४७-१५॥
tataḥ yathā āgatena eva mārgeṇa klānta cetasaḥ |
ayodhyām agaman sarve purīm vyathita sajjanām ॥2-47-15॥
Translation
Then, with weary minds, they all returned to Ayodhya by the very path they had come—to the city filled with distressed good people.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब, थके हुए मन वाले वे सभी लोग, जिस रास्ते से आए थे, उसी रास्ते से उस अयोध्या नगरी को लौट गए जो व्यथित सज्जनों से भरी थी।
English Commentary
The physical return marks the end of their pursuit. They are described as klānta cetasaḥ (spiritually/mentally exhausted). Retracing their steps (yathā āgatena eva) symbolizes the undoing of their hopes. The city they return to is defined not by its architecture, but by its grief—vyathita sajjanām (full of pained/distressed good people). It paints a bleak picture of Ayodhya, now a shell of its former glory without Rama.

यह सर्ग का समापन है। 'क्लान्त चेतसः' (थके हुए मन/हृदय) शारीरिक थकान से अधिक मानसिक पराजय को दर्शाता है। जिस उत्साह से वे आए थे, वह अब शून्य हो चुका है। 'यथा आगतेन एव मार्गेण' (जैसे आए थे वैसे ही) लौटना उनकी विफलता की पुष्टि करता है। अयोध्या अब 'सुंदर नगरी' नहीं, बल्कि 'व्यथित सज्ज्नाम्' (दुखी लोगों की जगह) बन गई है। शरीर घर लौट रहा है, लेकिन आत्मा वन में राम के साथ रह गई है।
