ते तानि वेश्मानि महाधनानि ।
दुःखेन दुःखोपहता विशन्तः ।
नैव प्रजज्ञुः स्वजनम् जनम् वा ।
निरीक्षमाणाः प्रविणष्टहर्षाः ॥ ॥२-४७-१९॥
te tāni veśmāni mahādhanāni |
duḥkhena duḥkhopahatā viśantaḥ |
naiva prajajñuḥ svajanam janam vā |
nirīkṣamāṇāḥ pravinaṣṭaharṣāḥ ॥2-47-19॥
Translation
Entering their wealthy homes, struck by sorrow upon sorrow and bereft of joy, they could not even distinguish between their own kin and strangers as they looked around.

अपनी नष्ट हुई खुशियों के साथ, दुख पर दुख से पीड़ित वे लोग अपने अत्यंत धन-धान्य से पूर्ण घरों में प्रवेश करते हुए, अपने परिजनों और परायों में भेद नहीं कर पा रहे थे।
English Commentary
This describes a state of dissociation. Returning to mahādhanāni (wealthy/opulent) homes offers no comfort. The grief is so overwhelming (duḥkhopahatā) that it induces a cognitive collapse—they cannot distinguish svajanam (kin) from janam (others). This blur signifies that without Rama, the social structure and personal attachments that define their daily lives have rendered meaningless. They are physically present but psychologically numb.

यह श्लोक मानसिक आघात (trauma) की चरम सीमा है। वे अपने 'महाधनानि' (अमीर) घरों में लौट तो आए हैं, लेकिन धन उन्हें कोई सांत्वना नहीं दे रहा। 'न प्रजज्ञुः' (नहीं पहचान/जान पाए) का अर्थ है कि उनका चित्त इतना भ्रमित है कि उन्हें यह होश नहीं कि सामने खड़ा व्यक्ति अपना है या पराया। जब दुख सामूहिक और इतना गहरा हो, तो व्यक्तिगत रिश्ते और सामाजिक पहचान धुंधली पड़ जाती है। वे घर में होकर भी बेघर जैसा महसूस कर रहे हैं।
