Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
धिगस्तु खलु निद्राम् ताम् ययापहृतचेतसः ।
नाद्य पश्यामहे रामम् पृथूरस्कम् महाभुजम् ॥ ॥२-४७-४॥
dhig astu khalu nidrām tām yayā apahṛtacetasaḥ |
nādya paśyāmahe rāmam pṛthūraskam mahābhujam ॥2-47-4॥
Translation
Damned be that sleep by which our senses were stolen away, for today we do not see the broad-chested and mighty-armed Rama.

उस नींद को धिक्कार है जिसने हमारी चेतना हर ली, जिसके कारण आज हम विशाल छाती और महाबाहु वाले राम को नहीं देख पा रहे हैं।
English Commentary
This verse expresses the citizens' intense self-reproach. They curse the sleep that is usually restorative, viewing it now as the enemy that robbed them of their vigilance. By lamenting that they cannot see the 'broad-chested' and 'mighty-armed' Rama, they are mourning the loss of their protector. It highlights a poignant aspect of devotion where the devotee blames their own lack of awareness for the separation from the divine, feeling that if only they had remained awake (vigilant), they could have stopped him.

यह श्लोक नागरिकों के आत्म-ग्लानि और पश्चाताप को दर्शाता है। वे स्वयं को कोस रहे हैं कि वे सोये ही क्यों। सामान्यतः नींद थकान मिटाने वाली होती है, किंतु यहाँ यह उनके लिए शत्रु बन गई है क्योंकि इसी अचेत अवस्था का लाभ उठाकर राम चले गए। 'पृथूरस्कम्' (विशाल वक्ष वाले) और 'महाभुजम्' (विशाल भुजाओं वाले) विशेषण राम के उस रक्षक स्वरूप को याद दिलाते हैं जिसे उन्होंने अपनी असावधानी (नींद) के कारण खो दिया है। यह भक्ति की वह अवस्था है जहाँ भक्त भगवान के वियोग का कारण अपनी ही त्रुटि मानता है।
