कथम् नाम महाबाहुः स तथाऽवितथक्रियः ।
भक्तम् जनम् परित्यज्य प्रवासम् राघवो गतः ॥ ॥२-४७-५॥
katham nāma mahābāhuḥ sa tathāvitathakriyaḥ |
bhaktam janam parityajya pravāsam rāghavo gataḥ ॥2-47-5॥
Translation
How could that mighty-armed Raghava, who is always true to his deeds, abandon his devoted people and go into exile?

वे महाबाहु राघव, जो अपने कार्यों में हमेशा सच्चे (अवितथक्रिय) रहते हैं, अपने भक्त जनों को त्याग कर वनवास के लिए कैसे चले गए?
English Commentary
The citizens struggle to reconcile Rama's departure with his character. They describe him as avitathakriyaḥ (one whose actions are never false/futile). They feel a sense of affectionate betrayal: if Rama is the embodiment of Dharma and protection, how could he abandon his bhaktam janam (devoted people)? This rhetorical question underscores their shock. They cannot grasp that Rama’s adherence to a higher Truth (his father’s vow) necessitated this heartbreaking separation.

नागरिकों को विश्वास नहीं हो रहा है कि राम उन्हें छोड़ गए। वे राम को 'अवितथक्रिय' (जिनके कार्य कभी व्यर्थ या झूठे नहीं होते) कहते हैं। उनका तर्क है कि प्रजा की रक्षा करना राजा का धर्म है, तो फिर राम उन्हें अनाथ छोड़कर कैसे जा सकते हैं? यह प्रश्न राम की निंदा नहीं, बल्कि उनके स्नेह पर नागरिकों के अधिकार का दावा है। उन्हें लगता है कि राम का यह व्यवहार उनके स्वभाव के विपरीत है, जो प्रेम और त्याग का द्वंद्व प्रस्तुत करता है।
