सन्ति शुष्काणि काष्ठानि प्रभूतानि महान्ति च ।
तैः प्रज्वाल्य चिताम् सर्वे प्रविशामोऽथ पावकम् ॥ ॥२-४७-८॥
santi śuṣkāṇi kāṣṭhāni prabhūtāni mahānti ca |
taiḥ prajvālya citām sarve praviśāmo'tha pāvakam ॥2-47-8॥
Translation
There are many large, dry logs of wood available here. Lighting a pyre with them, let us all enter the fire.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(वन में) बहुत सी बड़ी-बड़ी सूखी लकड़ियाँ हैं। उनसे चिता जलाकर हम सब (उसी) अग्नि में प्रवेश कर जाएँ।
English Commentary
The hysteria of grief drives the crowd to propose mass immolation. Seeing the dry wood of the forest, they do not think of building shelters or fires for warmth, but a funeral pyre (citām) for themselves. This visceral reaction underscores the intensity of their loss. It is a dramatic representation of the sentiment that a life void of the divine presence (Rama) is a life better ended.

नागरिकों का शोक अब उन्माद का रूप ले चुका है। वे सामूहिक अग्नि-समाधि की योजना बनाने लगते हैं। सामने पड़ा सूखा काष्ठ उन्हें मृत्यु का साधन नजर आता है। यह दृश्य अत्यंत करुण है—एक पूरा जनसमूह अपने प्रिय राजकुमार के वियोग में जल कर मर जाने को तत्पर है। यह राम के प्रति उनके समर्पण की गहनता को दिखाता है, जहाँ राम के बिना जीने की कल्पना भी असंभव है।
