Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न हि प्रव्रजिते रामे जीविष्यति मही पतिः ।
मृते दशरथे व्यक्तम् विलोपः तत् अनन्तरम् ॥ ॥२-४८-२६॥
na hi pravrajite rāme jīviṣyati mahī patiḥ । mṛte daśarathe vyaktam vilopaḥ tat anantaram ॥ ॥2-48-26॥
Translation
The Lord of the Earth (Dasharatha) will surely not survive once Rama has gone into exile. And once Dasharatha is dead, it is certain that total ruin will follow immediately.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राम के वन चले जाने पर महाराज दशरथ जीवित नहीं रहेंगे। और दशरथ की मृत्यु के बाद निश्चित ही सब कुछ लुप्त (नष्ट) हो जाएगा।
English Commentary
The collective intuition of the public is sharp. They accurately predict that Dasharatha's bond with Rama is so vital that separation means death. The phrase vyaktam vilopah (certain ruin/annihilation) indicates their fear of the "Matsya Nyaya" (Law of the Fish, where the big eat the small) which prevails when a kingdom loses its monarch. They see themselves standing on the precipice of a dark era where the legitimate lineage is broken.

प्रजा राजा दशरथ की मनोदशा को भली-भांति समझती है। वे जानते हैं कि राम राजा के प्राण हैं। यह भविष्यवाणी सत्य सिद्ध होती है क्योंकि राम के वियोग में दशरथ प्राण त्याग देते हैं। 'विलोपा' (विलुप्त होना/बर्बादी) शब्द का प्रयोग उस स्थिति के लिए किया गया है जहाँ कानून और व्यवस्था समाप्त हो जाती है। प्रजा को भय है कि वृद्ध राजा की मृत्यु के बाद उत्तराधिकार के संघर्ष में राज्य बिखर जाएगा। यह उनकी राजनीतिक दूरदर्शिता को दर्शाता है।
