स्वम् स्वम् निलयम् आगम्य पुत्र दारैः समावृताः ।
अश्रूणि मुमुचुः सर्वे बाष्पेण पिहित आननाः ॥ ॥२-४८-३॥
svam svam nilayam āgamya putra dāraiḥ samāvṛtāḥ |
aśrūṇi mumucuḥ sarve bāṣpeṇa pihita ānanāḥ ॥2-48-3॥
Translation
Upon reaching their respective homes and being surrounded by their sons and wives, they all covered their faces and shed tears.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अपने-अपने घर पहुँचकर, पुत्रों और पत्नियों से घिरे होने पर भी, उन सबने अपने मुखों को (लज्जा और शोक से) ढककर आँसू बहाए।
English Commentary
The reunion with families is tragic rather than joyous. Being surrounded by wives and sons (putra dāraiḥ samāvṛtāḥ) highlights the void left by Rama. They cover their faces (pihita ānanāḥ) not just out of grief, but shame. They feel like failures for returning without the beloved prince. The home, usually a sanctuary, becomes a place of confrontation with their inability to change the tragic course of events.

घर लौटना आम तौर पर सुकून देता है, लेकिन यहाँ यह पीड़ा को बढ़ा रहा है। परिवार (पुत्र-दार) का साथ उन्हें सांत्वना देने के बजाय उनके 'अपराधबोध' को जगा रहा है। 'पिहित आननाः' (मुंह ढककर) रोना यह बताता है कि वे अपने परिवार से नजरें मिलाने में असमर्थ हैं। उन्हें लज्जा है कि वे राम को वापस नहीं ला सके। यह सामूहिक विफलता का व्यक्तिगत पारिवारिक स्तर पर प्रकटीकरण है।
