Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
आपगाः कृत पुण्याः ताः पद्मिन्यः च सराम्सि च ।
येषु स्नास्यति काकुत्स्थो विगाह्य सलिलम् शुचि ॥ ॥२-४८-९॥
āpagāḥ kṛta puṇyāḥ tāḥ padminyaḥ ca sarāmsi ca । yeṣu snāsyati kākutstho vigāhya salilam śuci ॥ ॥2-48-9॥
Translation
Blessed and meritorious are those rivers, lotus-ponds, and lakes, in whose pure waters Kakutstha (Rama) will immerse himself to bathe.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे नदियाँ, वे कमलों से भरे सरोवर और वे जलाशय धन्य और पुण्यवान हो गए हैं, जिनके पवित्र जल में डुबकी लगाकर श्री राम (काकुत्स्थ) स्नान करेंगे।
English Commentary
In this verse, the deep devotion of the citizens transforms the narrative of exile. Usually, humans bathe in rivers to purify themselves, but here, the perspective is inverted: the rivers, lotus ponds, and lakes themselves will become sanctified and meritorious (Krita-punyah) because Rama will bathe in them. The citizens envy the nature that will enjoy the intimacy of Rama's presence. It highlights the belief that Rama is not just a prince, but a purifying force, and his exile serves to bless the wilderness rather than merely punish the man.

इस श्लोक में अयोध्यावासियों का श्री राम के प्रति प्रेम इतना प्रगाढ़ है कि उन्हें लगता है कि प्रकृति भी राम के स्पर्श से पवित्र हो जाएगी। सामान्यतः भक्त तीर्थों में स्नान कर पवित्र होते हैं, किंतु यहाँ भाव यह है कि स्वयं गंगा आदि नदियाँ और सरोवर राम के स्पर्श से 'कृत-पुण्य' (पुण्यशाली) हो जाएंगे। वनवास को एक कष्ट के रूप में देखने के बजाय, प्रजा इसे प्रकृति के सौभाग्य के रूप में देख रही है। यह दृष्टिकोण दर्शाता है कि राम का व्यक्तित्व केवल मानवीय नहीं, बल्कि पावन और दिव्य है, जो जल को भी शुद्धि प्रदान करने में सक्षम है।
