राजर्षीणाम् हि लोकेऽस्मिन् रत्यर्थम् मृगया वने ।
काले कृताम् ताम् मनुजैर्धन्विनामभिकाङ्क्षिताम् ॥ ॥२-४९-१७॥
Rājarṣīṇām hi loke'smin ratyartham mṛgayā vane |
Kāle kṛtām tām manujair dhanvinām abhikāṅkṣitām ॥2-49-17॥
Translation
"For royal sages in this world, hunting in the forest is for recreation; it is done by archers at appropriate times and is desired by them."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"इस संसार में राजर्षियों के लिए वन में शिकार रति (विनोद) के लिए होता है। इसे धनुर्धर वीरों द्वारा उचित समय पर किया जाता है और वे इसकी अभिलाषा रखते हैं।"
English Commentary
Rama continues his philosophical musing on hunting to distract from the sorrow of departure. By emphasizing that it is done kāle (at the proper time), he reinforces the idea of discipline even in leisure. It reflects Rama’s mindset: he is leaving as an ascetic, yet his instincts and training remain that of a protector and a warrior (Dhanvin). He is intellectually reconciling his past life as a prince with the austere future awaiting him.

राम शिकार के विषय को विस्तार देते हुए 'काले कृताम्' (उचित समय पर किया गया) पर जोर देते हैं। क्षत्रिय के लिए हर कार्य का एक समय और नियम होता है। यह संवाद सुमन्त्र के साथ हो रहा है ताकि यात्रा की उदासी कम हो सके। राम इन बातों के माध्यम से अपने क्षत्रिय संस्कारों को याद कर रहे हैं, भले ही अब वे तपस्वी का जीवन जीने जा रहे हैं। यह उनके व्यक्तित्व के दो पहलुओं—राजकुमार और तपस्वी—के बीच के संक्रमण को दर्शाता है।
