ततो यथावद्रामेण स राज्ञो गुरुरर्चितः ।
अभ्यनुज्ञाप्य काकुत्थ्सं ययौ रामनिवेशनात् ॥२-५-१२॥
tato yathāvadrāmeṇa sa rājño gururarccitaḥ |
abhyanujñāpya kākutthsaṃ yayau rāmaniveśanāt ॥2-5-12॥
Translation
Then, that preceptor of the King (Vasiṣṭha), having been duly honored by Rāma, took leave of the descendant of Kakutstha (Rāma) and departed from Rāma's residence.

तदनन्तर, राजा (दशरथ) के उन गुरु (महर्षि वसिष्ठ) ने, जो श्रीराम द्वारा विधिवत् पूजित थे, काकुत्स्थ (श्रीराम) से अनुमति लेकर श्रीराम के निवास स्थान से प्रस्थान किया।
English Commentary
This verse concludes the interaction between Maharshi Vasiṣṭha and Śrī Rāma, marking the transition from the ritual preparation phase to the night before the coronation. The narrator is describing the departure of the Rajguru. The śloka highlights Rāma's perfect adherence to dharma. Even while receiving the highest honor and being instructed by his preceptor, Rāma performs his duty as a disciple and host: yathāvadrāmeṇa... gururarcitaḥ (the Guru was duly honored by Rāma). This action underscores Rāma's perfect humility and respect, even toward the person bringing him the greatest news. Despite being the most authoritative figure in the kingdom, the Guru (Vasiṣṭha) adheres to respectful protocol by abhyanujñāpya kākutthsaṃ ('having taken leave of Kakutstha's descendant'). Although the preceptor gives instructions, seeking permission before departing from the disciple's home reflects mutual respect and the refined conduct expected within the highest echelons of society.
