तथेति च स राजानमुक्त्वा वेदविदां वरः ।
स्वयं वसिष्ठो भगवान् ययौ रामनिवेशनम् ॥२-५-३॥
tatheti ca sa rājānamuktvā vedavidāṁ varaḥ |
svayaṁ vasiṣṭho bhagavān yayau rāmaniveśnam ॥2-5-3॥
Translation
Saying 'So be it' (Tathāstu) to the King, that venerable Vasiṣṭha, the foremost among the knowers of the Vedas, himself went to Rāma's residence.

वेद जानने वालों में श्रेष्ठ उन भगवान् वसिष्ठ ने राजा दशरथ से ‘बहुत अच्छा’ (तथास्तु) कहकर, स्वयं राम के निवास स्थान (महल) की ओर प्रस्थान किया।
English Commentary
This verse from Sarga 5 of the Ayodhyakanda highlights the promptness and dutifulness of the venerable Vasiṣṭha immediately following King Daśaratha's command. Vasiṣṭha is respectfully referred to as '$vedavidāṁ\ varaḥ$' (the foremost among the knowers of the Vedas), signifying his immense knowledge and high status. Upon hearing Daśaratha's instruction, he immediately agreed by saying '$tatheti$' ('So be it' or 'May it be so') and began implementing it without delay. The notable detail here is that Vasiṣṭha himself ($svayaṁ\ vasiṣṭho\ bhagavān$) proceeded toward Śrī Rāma's residence ($rāmaniveśnam$), rather than sending a disciple or attendant.
