विशालान् कोसलान् रम्यान् यात्वा लक्ष्मण पूर्वजः ।
अयोध्याभिमुखो धीमान् प्राञ्ज्लिर्वाक्वमब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-५०-१॥
Viśālān kosalān ramyān yātvā lakṣmaṇa pūrvajaḥ |
Ayodhyābhimukho dhīmān prāñjalir vākyam abravīt ॥2-50-1॥
Translation
Having passed through the vast and beautiful Kosala, the wise elder brother of Lakshmana (Rama) turned his face toward Ayodhya and, with joined palms, spoke these words.

विशाल और रमणीय कोसल देश को पार करके, लक्ष्मण के अग्रज बुद्धिमान (राम) ने अयोध्या की ओर मुख करके और हाथ जोड़कर यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This is a scene of profound reverence and heartbreak. Upon strictly exiting the borders of the vast (viśālān) and beautiful (ramyān) Kosala, Rama performs a final act of duty as a citizen. He does not walk away with his back turned; he turns around to face his city (Ayodhyābhimukho). With folded hands (prāñjalir), he offers a prayer-like salutation to his birthplace. It symbolizes his respect for the land that nourished him, acknowledging that while he has lost his right to rule it, he has not lost his love for it.

यह एक अत्यंत भावुक क्षण है। राज्य की सीमा समाप्त होने पर, राम पीठ दिखाकर नहीं जाते। वे मुड़ते हैं, 'अयोध्याभिमुखो' (अयोध्या की तरफ चेहरा करके) खड़े होते हैं और 'प्राञ्जलि' (हाथ जोड़कर) अपने नगर को प्रणाम करते हैं। राम जानते हैं कि नगर और वहां की भूमि भी जीवंत है। एक 'धीमान्' (बुद्धिमान) व्यक्ति के रूप में, वे अपनी मातृभूमि के ऋण और महत्व को समझते हैं। यह विदाई का औपचारिक और आध्यात्मिक क्षण है।
