Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
देवोपवाह्यश्च मुहुः सम्नादितवनान्तराम् ।
प्रमदामिव यत्ने न भूषिताम् भूषणोत्तमैः ॥ ॥२-५०-२३॥
Devopavāhyais ca muhuḥ samnādita vanāntarām |
Pramadām iva yatnena bhūṣitām bhūṣaṇottamaiḥ ॥2-50-23॥
Translation
The interior of the forest was repeatedly made to echo by the elephants that serve as vehicles for the gods. It looked like a beautiful woman carefully adorned with the best ornaments.
हिंदी अनुवाद
देवताओं के वाहन रूपी हाथियों की चिंघाड़ से वहां का वन-प्रदेश बार-बार गूंज रहा था। वह (गंगा) श्रेष्ठ आभूषणों से यत्नपूर्वक सजाई गई सुंदर स्त्री (प्रमदा) के समान लग रही थी।
English Commentary
The forest echoes with the sounds of celestial elephants (devopavāhya), suggesting that the barrier between heaven and earth is thin here. The river is compared to a Pramadā (a beautiful young woman) who has been yatnena (painstakingly/carefully) adorned. The "ornaments" are the natural elements described previously. This implies that the beauty of the Ganga is not accidental but a deliberate masterpiece of creation.

'देवोपवाह्यैः' का अर्थ है देवताओं के वाहन (जैसे ऐरावत आदि)। गंगा का तट इतना पवित्र है कि इंद्र आदि देवताओं के हाथी भी यहाँ आते हैं। उनके शोर से वन गूंज रहा है। गंगा को 'प्रमदा' (युवती) कहा गया है जिसे 'यत्नेन' (बड़ी मेहनत से) सजाया गया है। प्रकृति ने स्वयं अपने सर्वश्रेष्ठ तत्वों (फूल, पक्षी, निर्मल जल) से इस नदी का शृंगार किया है।
