ताम् ऊर्मि कलिल आवर्ताम् अन्ववेक्ष्य महा रथः ।
सुमन्त्रम् अब्रवीत् सूतम् इह एव अद्य वसामहे ॥ ॥२-५०-२७॥
Tam urmi kalila aavartam anvavekshya maha rathah |
Sumantram abravit sutam iha eva adya vasamahe ॥2-50-27॥
Translation
Observing the river filled with turbulent waves and whirlpools, the great warrior Rama said to his charioteer Sumantra, "We shall stay right here today."

लहरों और भंवरों से युक्त उस नदी को ध्यानपूर्वक देखकर, महारथी राम ने अपने सारथी सुमंत से कहा— "आज हम यहीं निवास करेंगे।"
English Commentary
Rama’s keen observation of nature is highlighted here. Seeing the turbulent beauty of the Ganga, characterized by its waves and whirlpools, he decides to halt the journey for the day. The title "Maha-rathah" (great charioteer/warrior) contrasts with the stillness of the decision to camp by the riverbank. It shows Rama’s adaptability; he knows when to move and when to pause. This halt is not just for physical rest but to honor the sacred river and prepare mentally for the crossing. His command to Sumantra is gentle yet decisive, marking the end of their travel in the royal chariot before the foot journey begins.

यहाँ राम की निर्णय लेने की क्षमता और प्रकृति के प्रति उनके सम्मान को दर्शाया गया है। गंगा के प्रवाह, उनकी लहरों और भंवरों को देखकर राम वहीं रुकने का निर्णय लेते हैं। 'महारथः' शब्द का प्रयोग यह बताता है कि रथ पर होते हुए भी, राम अब एक यात्री की भांति व्यवहार कर रहे हैं। यह संध्या का समय है और यात्रा विराम का क्षण है। राम का सुमंत को निर्देश देना यह दिखाता है कि वन में भी वे नेतृत्व की भूमिका में हैं। नदी का वेग जीवन के उतार-चढ़ाव का प्रतीक है, जिसके तट पर राम शांति और विश्राम खोज रहे हैं।
