अविदूरात् अयम् नद्या बहु पुष्प प्रवालवान् ।
सुमहान् इन्गुदी वृक्षो वसामः अत्र एव सारथे ॥ ॥२-५०-२८॥
Avidurat ayam nadya bahu pushpa pravalavan |
Sumahan ingudi vriksho vasamah atra eva sarathe ॥2-50-28॥
Translation
"O Charioteer! Not far from the river stands this massive Ingudi tree, laden with abundant flowers and tender shoots. We shall dwell right here."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे सारथी! नदी से अधिक दूर नहीं, यह विशाल इंगुदी का वृक्ष है, जो बहुत से फूलों और नए पत्तों से लदा है। हम यहीं (इस वृक्ष के नीचे) निवास करेंगे।"
English Commentary
Rama selects a specific spot for their camp: a large Ingudi tree. This choice is symbolic. The Ingudi tree is associated with hermit life, often used by ascetics for its oil and fruit. By choosing this tree over any nearby settlement, Rama signals his complete embrace of the Vanavasa (forest exile) dharma. The description of the tree as blossoming and full of shoots suggests that nature itself provides a canopy for the Lord. It illustrates Rama’s ability to find beauty and utility in simplicity, transitioning effortlessly from a palace prince to a forest dweller finding shelter under the open sky.

राम ने विश्राम के लिए किसी भवन या कुटिया की मांग नहीं की, बल्कि एक 'इंगुदी' वृक्ष को चुना। यह उनके वनवासी जीवन को पूर्ण रूप से स्वीकार करने का संकेत है। इंगुदी का वृक्ष तपस्वी जीवन में बहुत उपयोगी माना जाता है (इसके फल और तेल का उपयोग साधु करते हैं)। वृक्ष का "पुष्प प्रवालवान" होना (फूलों और कोपलों से भरा होना) यह दर्शाता है कि प्रकृति राम के स्वागत के लिए तैयार है। राम का यह चयन सादगी और संतोष का परिचायक है। एक राजकुमार, जो महलों में रहता था, अब वृक्ष की छांव को ही अपना आश्रय मान रहा है।
