द्रक्ष्यामः सरिताम् श्रेष्ठाम् सम्मान्यसलिलाम् शिवाम् ।
देवदानवगन्धर्वमृगमानुषपक्षिणाम् ॥ ॥२-५०-२९॥
Drakshyamah saritam shreshtham samman-yasalilam shivam |
Devadanavagandharvamrigamanushapakshinam ॥2-50-29॥
Translation
"We shall gaze upon the foremost of rivers, the auspicious Ganga, whose waters are revered by gods, demons, Gandharvas, beasts, humans, and birds alike."

"हम सरिताओं में श्रेष्ठ, कल्याणकारी और देव, दानव, गंधर्व, मृग, मनुष्य तथा पक्षियों द्वारा पूजित जल वाली इस गंगा का दर्शन करेंगे।"
English Commentary
This verse reveals the spiritual motivation behind stopping at the riverbank. Rama expresses a desire to simply "gaze upon" (Drakshyamah) the holy river. He acknowledges the Ganga as the "Best of Rivers" and highlights her universal sanctity—worshipped by celestial beings (Devas, Danavas, Gandharvas) and terrestrial beings (humans, animals, birds) alike. The adjective "Shivam" implies that the river is the source of auspiciousness and spiritual welfare. Even in exile, Rama prioritizes spiritual observances and respect for sacred elements of nature, setting an example of piety for all.

इस श्लोक में गंगा के प्रति राम की अगाध श्रद्धा व्यक्त हुई है। वे गंगा को केवल एक नदी नहीं, बल्कि 'शिवाम्' (कल्याणकारी) और 'सरिताम् श्रेष्ठाम्' (नदियों में श्रेष्ठ) मानते हैं। राम कहते हैं कि वे वहां इसलिए रुकना चाहते हैं ताकि वे गंगा का दर्शन कर सकें। यह श्लोक गंगा की सार्वभौमिकता को भी दर्शाता है—जिसका जल देवता से लेकर पशु-पक्षियों तक, सभी के लिए पूजनीय और जीवनदायी है। राम, जो स्वयं ईश्वर के अवतार हैं, यहाँ मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम के रूप में तीर्थ-सेवन और नदी-पूजन का आदर्श प्रस्तुत कर रहे हैं।
